Obituary

April Jean Kempton-Choate, 39, passed away November 8, 2019, at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas.  The daughter of Brian Powers and Kimberly Kempton-Gilkey, she was born on March 30, 1980 in Hutchinson, Kansas.  She loved her career as a Certified Nurses Aide.

She attended Buhler High School and was a larger than life fan of the Denver Broncos.  She enjoyed cooking, particularly, grilling - she was a master griller and loved trying new recipes for her family and friends whenever she entertained.  Later she came to love the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.  She loved animals, especially her dogs, Jade, Harley, and A.J.

On June 26, 1999, she married Randall Gray, they later divorced.  She later married Gary Choate on July 13, 2007, and they also divorced.

Survivors include: her fiance', Johnny Lewis of the home; 1 son Jordan Gray; 1 daughter, Mariah Smith-Gilkey; Father, Brian (Chris) Powers; 2 sisters, Ashleigh Gilkey, and Holly Hooker; 2 brothers, Austin Gilkey, and Ryan Powers; 3 nieces, Caitlin Hooker, Kayleigh Gilkey, and Gracelyn Powers; 2 nephews, Clayton Hooker, and Alexander Gilkey; her grandmother, Jean Kempton.  She was preceded in death by mother, Kimberly, and grandfather, Richard Kempton.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 North Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Reno County Animal Shelter and left in care of the funeral home.
