Barbara J. Fry was born in Hutchinson, KS, on January 23, 1946, and passed away on March 25, 2025, in South Hutchinson, KS, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. McGill and Freida M. McGill; her son, Roger S. Carson; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Palmatier.
She is survived by her three daughters, Tammy R. Koop-Rivera of Kansas, Misty D. Koop-MacKay of Missouri, and Kristy L. Volpi of Idaho, as well as 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Barbara was the oldest of six siblings, all of whom survive her.
Before retirement, Barbara earned her CNA certification and found great fulfillment working in home health care, where she provided compassionate and playful care for the elderly. She had a gift for bringing warmth and joy to those she cared for, always finding ways to lift spirits with kindness and laughter.
Barbara was a creative spirit with a passion for gardening and crafting of all kinds. She loved painting storefront windows in downtown Hutchinson, crocheting, beadwork, home décor, and turning every space she touched into something beautiful. She also chased her dreams as a country singer, embracing music with the same passion she brought to everything she did. However, her greatest joy and crowning achievement in life was being a devoted mother.
Barbara was never too busy for her children. She played, laughed, danced, and sang with them throughout their lives, creating memories filled with love and joy.
Barbara was a lifelong lover of going to church and had a deep devotion to her faith. She loved Jesus and was never far from her Bible, often reading it and drawing strength from its teachings. Her faith was a source of peace, guidance, and comfort, and she shared it generously with her family and friends.
The scripture, "Her children rise and call her blessed" (Proverbs 31:28), is a testament to the love, guidance, and strength she provided throughout her life.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Old Mission Heritage Funeral Home in Hutchinson, KS, with a graveside service to follow.
Barbara's love, laughter, unwavering devotion to her family, and deep faith will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
