Betty Jean Obee, 89, Hutchinson, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kan. She was born Feb. 19, 1922, in rural Reno County, to Rollie C. and Jenny Ozelma (Ramsey) Pitchford.
She married Frank Byron Melson on Jan. 22, 1941, in Tulsa, Okla. She married Vincent Cecil (Bud) Obee on March 8, 1958, in Wichita, Kan. She loved her years spent on their farm in rural Hutchinson and supported Bud during his years as director of the NJCAA Basketball Tournament. She was a very talented woman and loved to paint, sew, quilt, make ceramic dolls, and carve dolls, bears and ducks.
Survivors include: daughter, Arthalene Julia (Ginger) Walker (Napoleon), Vernon, Texas; son, Monty Obee (Kathryn), Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Don Paige, Hutchinson; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents; sisters, Leona and Maxine; brother, Rollie R.; and grandson, Victor Hurd.
Graveside services 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Pleasant View Home or Hair Biz Wigs for Cancer.
