Obituary

Charles Elwin "Charley" Moyers, 70, of Hutchinson, Kansas, died peacefully on July 27, 2025, at Mennonite Manor.

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Charley was a gifted woodwind musician, best known for his jazz saxophone performances. He earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Wichita State University and began his career teaching high school band in Great Bend, Kansas.

He brought joy to others through his music, both at home and abroad. Charley performed internationally, including as a musician aboard Carnival cruise ships in the Caribbean and shows in Sea Island, Georgia to the beach towns of eastern Florida. He also played extensively throughout Hutchinson and the surrounding area. A devout Christian, he worshipped and performed at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, where he was a choir member, and later at Countryside Baptist Church. In his later years, he continued to play for fellow residents and staff at Mission Place, Buhler Sunshine Home, and Mennonite Manor. He made many friends over the years in his travels and brought joy to many with his love of music.

Charley was known for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He loved his family deeply and took joy in celebrating holidays and birthdays with his siblings, nieces, and great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Parm and Shirley Moyers; sister, Jo Ellen and her daughter Jennifer,  and his cherished sister, and lifelong friend, Maggie (Moyers) Robinson.

Survivors include his brothers, Roy (Ronda) Moyers and John Moyers; brother-in-law, and close friend, Randy Robinson; his beloved and caring nieces, Stacy Robinson, and Melinda Robinson (Katie Gannaway); and his great-nephew, Deacon (Robinson) LaGreca.

A private family memorial will be held in his honor. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery on Rayles Hill in Hutchinson at a later date.
