Obituary

Clifford Swepston, a lifelong resident of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on March 27, 2026. Born on July 3, 1938, to Fred and Ruby (Matlock) Swepston.

Clifford was known by many as "Cowboy," as he always had his hat on. His infectious smile and laugh brightened the lives of everyone he met, and he had a remarkable ability to make friends everywhere he went. Clifford could often be found dancing whenever possible.

Clifford devoted much of his life to serving as an assistant custodian at a school in western Kansas. He was an avid follower of JUCO basketball. He was also a dedicated car show enthusiast who won multiple awards showcasing his beloved truck.

His life long childhood friend Vic Jordan would pick him up and take him to Elmdale Senior Center to play card bingo. John Hanson came to visit almost daily

Born, raised, and passed away in Hutchinson, Clifford’s roots ran deep in the community he loved. Those who knew him remember not only his lively spirit but also his enduring kindness and warmth.

Clifford is survived by his son, Michael (Lynette) Swepston, of Cypress, Texas; his daughter, Tammy Drown, of Salina, Kansas; his sisters, Pat Stevenson of Seldon, Kansas and Joyce Steffens, of Hutchinson, Kansas; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service in celebration of Clifford’s life will be held on April 10, 2026, visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. with service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 528 North Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Boulevard, starting at 2:00 p.m.
