David M. "Butch" Cheeves, Jr., 77, passed away November 19, 2016 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he was born February 25, 1939, the son of David, Sr., and Martha LouCele Marshall Cheeves.

A 1958 graduate of Hutchinson High School, he also attended Hutchinson Community College. A veteran of the United States Army with a rank of Staff Sergeant, he also completed the Airborne Course in 1963, was a member of the 101st Airborne Division, The Special Forces Reserve Unit, and Army Reserve Platoon Sergeant.

He was the owner of DMC Fumigation until 2001. He worked as a contract grain sampler for the Kansas Grain Inspection from 1993 - 2009. He also attended first United Methodist Church, was a lifetime NRA member, and enjoyed coin collecting, playing Keno, going to the Kansas Star casino, playing poker with friends, and going to Las Vegas each year for the Superbowl. When he was younger he enjoyed skydiving, hunting and fishing with his Boxer, Rocky, and his best friend, Denis Jones, riding motorcycles, snake hunting and camping at Waynoka and Freedom, Oklahoma with family and friends.

He married Theresa A. Baker in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 29, 1986. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Deidree Cheeves of Kansas City, Missouri, an adopted brother, Todd White, many cousins and friends.

Per his request cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Cause for Paws or Hospice and Home Care of Reno County and left in care of Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. Friends may sign his register book from now until December 1, 2016 at the funeral home.
