Deloris Irene Young, 94, passed away February 6, 2017 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born in Stafford, Kansas, September 25, 1922, the daughter of Charley and Lena Herrell.

As a member of Eastwood Church of Christ she taught Bible classes for years and was an integral leader of the church nursery. She assisted her husband by keeping the financial records of his television service business. Along with raising a big garden each year and canning the produce, she also sewed most of the clothing for her daughters. In addition to taking care of her family, Deloris served as a caregiver to her neighbors, and babysat for many children.

On June 22, 1942 she married John M. Young in Aberdeen, South Dakota. After 66 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on December 26, 2008.

Survivors include 5 daughters, Linda (Nick) Wheeler, Janis (Kurt) Johnston, Janet (Kale) Martin, Debbi Wilkins, Cheryl (Kevin) Huddleston; 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey Wheeler, Heather Martin, Jeremy Wheeler, Troy Martin, Mandy Johnston, Kevin Johnston, Caleb Huddleston; 3 great grandchildren, Ashlyn Martin, Aiden Martin, Austin Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 4 brothers, and, a son in law, Joe Wilkins.

A gathering for friends will be held Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00 pm at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 10, 2017 at 1:00pm at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, Kansas. Burial will follow in Peace Creek Cemetery, Stafford, Kansas. Memorial gifts may be made to Eastwood Church of Christ or Roger Dixon Missionary Fund and left in care of the funeral home.
