Donald I. Maurer, 78, passed away December 17, 2016 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 22, 1938, the son of Henry and Catherine Maurer.
He led a very adventurous life with his unique style. He held many jobs from construction to golf course grounds and building maintenance, and, training horses. He loved charming the women, playing cards, spending time outdoors, and telling stories with friends to see who would get "one up" over the other. Most of his later years were spend on the ocean side of Florida fulfilling his love of the ocean before moving to Kansas to be near his children. Possessions were never important to Don - giving and helping others was more important to him.
Survivors include his children, Dale (May Ann) Harper, Vivian (Gary) Winter, Kenny (Susan) Harper, and Rebecca (Frank) Lopez, all of whom were born in June (Dad always said there was something about the "frost" on the pumpkins); a brother, Warren Maurer; a sister, Beverly Eckholm; many loving grandchildren and great grand children; nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Eddie Oglesby and Jeff Dussia.
Per his preference of not being made over, his request to be cremated without services will be honored by his family.
