Obituary

Etta May Shimel, 85, of South Hutchinson, passed away July 9, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson.   The daughter of Calvin and Lillie Cox, she was born in Rural LaClede, Missouri, on November 20, 1934.

An avid reader, she loved listening to traditional country and western music.  Besides the caring for her family, she was a dedicated member and tireless worker for the Salvation Army.

She was married to Paul Shimel, the love of her life for over 30 years, and he preceded her in death in 1995.

Survivors include: one son, James ( Dana) Shimel of Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Allison Shimel of Wichita, Brecken Shimel of Lawrence.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may sign the guest book from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, 528 North Main St., Hutchinson, Kansas.  A graveside celebration of life will be held Monday, July 13, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Boulevard, Hutchinson, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army and left in care of the funeral home.
