Obituary

Glen Christopher Wood, 59, of Trousdale, Kansas, passed away July 23, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  The third son of Norman and Betty Giebler Wood, he was born in Larned, Kansas, on August 29, 1960. He was a 1979 Macksville High School graduate.  He graduated from Fort Hay State University in 1983 with a BS degree in animal science.

On December 22, 1984, he married the love of his life, Cynthia Lynn Emmons in Hays, Kansas.  After 35 years together on their Trousdale farm, she survives of the home.  Other survivors include: his mother, Betty Wood, Pratt, Kansas ; his daughters, Megan ( Luke) Schroeder, Trousdale, Kansas, and Mindy ( Jeremy ) Burr, Kinsley, Kansas; brothers, Darrell ( Natalie ) Wood and Kenneth ( Melinda ) Wood, both of Trousdale, Kansas; sister, Karen ( Justin) Vosburgh, Macksville, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Avery, Tucker, Jace, Jaden, Ashlyn, Brecklyn; numerous nieces and nephews and life long friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Wood; sister, Kathy Wood;  sister in law, Sheila Wood; and brother in law, Dwayne Rein.

Glen was a lifelong farmer and was very proud to farm with his brothers, Darrell and Kenny, and later, his son-in-law, Luke.  He also had a small cow herd that provided some extra excitement and stories with longtime friends, Troy Nelson and Sug Stimatze.

Glen was an avid Denver Broncos football fan and he enforced strict house rules during game time!

Glen's skills were numerous but perhaps his most amazing was as a self-taught antique JD tractor mechanic and painter.  He rebuilt and repainted many tractors and they were nothing shy of professional jobs.  He was known for his greasy hands and messy shop and a lot of hard work went through both.  He bought his first antique JD tractor, a 1936 Model A, in 1989 from 17 year-old Darwin Gingerich who turned into a lifelong tractor buddy.  Together they saved and resurrected many old two-cylinder tractors from tree rows.

Hunting and fishing was another passion, especially deer hunting and waterfowl hunting with his buddies, Gale, George, and Terry, and his daughter, Megan.  He shot lots of nice bucks and never lost the thrill of the hunt.  He spent a lot of time in nature and had an uncanny understanding of animals and a deep appreciation for God's handiwork.

His favorite titles were Dad and Grandpa Glen.  He was very proud of his wife and daughters, Megan and Mindy.  While he had a hard time relating to his girly girl, Mindy, he loved her spunk and toughness!  Megan shared many of his interests, including Broncos football and hunting!

The grandchildren gave him his absolute greatest joy!  Any bad day was lifted by a visit from one or more of the little ones.  He was the best Grandpa!  3 year-old Tucker loves the pop-pop tractors and guns and he and Grandpa were best of buds!

He will be missed by many.  He truly was one of a kind.
