Guadalupe Humberto Cantu, 84, earned his heavenly wings on July 25, 2017 at Pleasant View Home of Inman, Kansas. The son of Julio and Manuela Cantu, he was born June 29, 1933 in Oilton, Texas. He was a retired construction worker.
A veteran of the United States Marines, Navy, and, Army, he served during the Korean War. A dedicated husband and father, he was an avid reader, loved to study history, and was a fan of boxing. Nothing though compared to taking care of his family!
On April 19, 1971 he married Teresa Guillen in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives him after 46 years of marriage.
Other survivors include 2 sons, Edmund Xavier and John Robert Cantu; 2 daughters, Maria Eliza Cantu-Reyes (Daniel) and Monica Jean Cantu; 1 sister, Elida Guzman; 1 brother, Julio Cantu II; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Jesse, Oscar, Adolfo, and 2 sisters, Maria, Eva.
A gathering for friends and family will be Monday, August 31, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. A graveside celebration of life with military honors will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:15 am at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Boulevard, Hutchinson, Kansas, with Father Ned Blick presiding. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and left in care of the funeral home.
