Harold Eugene Coker ( known as Gene) , 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 13, 2021 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. Gene was born in Denver, Colorado on June 16, 1942. He graduated from Hutchinson High School. Gene worked hard all his life. He retired from Cargill Salt, Hutchinson, Kansas after 27 years of employment. He also worked for Western Foods for 10 years.
On October 13, 1972, Gene married the love of his life Charlotte Akins. They had 49 years of wedded bliss with so many memories and love they gave to each other. Gene is a member of The Christian Church and Academy for 46 years. He had several close friends which were referred to as the coffee shop guys. They often met at Skeats Restaurant in Hutchinson. Some of the Coffee shop guys are Todd L. Wilson, Charlie Griffin, Charlie Griffin, Jr., Rocky Florentine, John Mendenhall and Johnny Perez. Todd often would take Gene to Texoma River to fish by the Texas border.
Gene is survived by family members: wife, Charlotte ( Akins) Coker, of the home; son, David Coker of Hutchinson, Kansas; 2 step daughters, Michelle Gumble of Kingman, Kansas and Mendy Pagles of Topeka, Kansas; step son, Malcolm Boren of Osage, Kansas; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother and daughter Kathy Coker.
Gene was a wonderful husband, father, friend and Christian, and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. We will see him in heaven.
