Helen Jane Day, 88, passed away April 10, 2013, at her home in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born on October 6, 1924, the daughter of Robert L. and Lydia C. Smeltzer in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1942 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
For over 30 years, she worked as a retail sales clerk for Fiffe's Liquor Store where she met and built relationships with thousands of friends. In addition, she loved her cats and was an avid fan of big band music. Outside of her loving family and friends, her life revolved around her work, and her faith, and her love for St. Teresa Catholic Church.
Survivors include: a son, Jerry Potter (Connie) of Lakewood, California; three grandchildren, David and Stephen Nadal, and Rachel Ann; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Joe Potter and Gordon Day.
Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday April 16, 2013 at Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, Hutchinson. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday April 17, 2013 at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later time at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to St. Teresa Catholic Church or the Hutchinson Public Library, both in care of Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, Hutchinson.
