Hershall Ray Chambers, 78, passed away November 4, 2013 at Hutchinson
Regional Medical Center. Born on April 15, 1935 in Webb City, Oklahoma, he
was the son of Oscar and Audrey Chambers. He worked for 42 years for Reno
County, and retired as a foreman of the Reno County Bridge Department.
He was always looking for ways to make life better for his family, friends and
neighbors. A devout fisherman he spent hour after hour working with his children,
grandchildren, and neighboring Amish children teaching the craft of fishing. A
most generous and giving man, he would make sure that every need his family or
friends had was met. He was a man who would literally take the shirt of his back
to help his fellow man.
On October 18, 1954, he married the love of his life, Shirley J. J. Watkins in Kingman,
Kansas. She preceded him in death. He is survived by 2 sons, Danny R. (Linda)
Chambers, and, Randy R. (Carol) Chambers, both of Hutchinson; 4 daughters,
Carolyn King (Floyd), and, Pamela Postier (Jim), both of Hutchinson, Tamatha
Lindt (Mike) of Haven, Ks, Cheryl Graves (Steven) of Nickerson, Ks; 1 brother,
Doyle Chambers (Bonita) of South Hutchinson, Ks; 2 sisters, Bonnie Meyer (Phil)
of Burrton, Ks, and Nina Williams of Wichita, Ks; 10 grandchildren and 17 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Imogene
Pritchard and Olivia Thrasher, 3 brothers, Oscar Chambers, Jr., Edward
Chambers, and Thomas Chambers, 1 grandson, Eric King.
Public visitation will be Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, with
the family present from 5:00 -7:00 pm, at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home,
528 N. Main, Hutchinson. Graveside service will be Friday, November 8, 2013 at
2:00 pm at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Ks. In lieu of flowers the family has
asked for memorial gifts to be made to Reno County Cancer Council and left in
care of the funeral home.
