Obituary

Howard A. Carter, Sr., 82, passed away October 18, 2017 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. He son of John A. and Beatrice Carter, he was born May 16, 1935 in Great Bend, Kansas. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a retired over the road truck driver.

A member of the AME Methodist Church, he loved the spend time outdoors fishing, working on and repairing cars. In addition, to his truck driving he also operated his own painting business. He worked hard to provide for his family,

He married Louise Lynn Overgard in Hutchinson, Kansas in April 1988. She survives.

Other survivors include 3 sons, Arlando L. (Belinda) Rich, Howard A. (Sarah) Carter, Jr., Matthew E. (Julie) Gray; 9 grandchildren; 1 brother, Albert Hicks; 2 sisters, Anna, Mary Hicks; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Betty Jo Doss, 2 brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 23, 2017 with military honors at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. Per his request cremation will follow and inurnment will take place at a later date in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
