James Edward Cassady, was born April 27, 1941 in Ashland, Kansas to James Henry and Carrie Rachel (Weve) Cassady. He died at Hutchinson Care Center on April 22, 2011 at the age of 69. He worked for Pawnee Co. Highway Dept., Doerrs, GBI, several roofing companies and for a short time for Macksville Hay Co. and various factories. He served in the National Guard from April 1962 to April 1969. He married Paula Horjes on September 29, 1979 and helped raise her 3 year old daughter Christie. They divorced in 1990.
Preceding him in death are his parents; 2 brothers, Dale Edwin and John Henry; and a sister, Norma Vaughn.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Paula; step-daughter, Christie (Terry) Sinnett of Katy, TX; twin sisters, Velda Souter of Hutchinson, KS and Velma Harman of Garfield, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cheney, Kansas.
Memorials have been set up in James''s name to help defray funeral costs. Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
