Obituary

James Floyd Gilbert, 87, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away August 16, 2020, at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas.  He was born November 6, 1932, in Fairbanks, Alaska; he was the son of Frank and Caroline Gilbert.  He was a retired employee of Westar Energy.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, he loved to travel with his wife Billie.  He worked tirelessly in his yard and gardens, and relaxed doing puzzles, drawing or reading.  He enjoyed doing genealogy on his family.

On May 25, 1970, he married Billie Jean Hager in Miami, Oklahoma.  She preceded him in death on November 11, 2013.

Survivors include: four sons, James Gilbert, Steven Gilbert, Shawn Stanfield, Mark Stanfield; four daughters, Kym Stanfield, Betsy Camp, Sandy Barale, Linda Gilbert; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie; two sisters, Francis and Peggy.

Friends may stop and sign the book Wednesday and Thursday, August 19 and 20, 20202 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, 528 North Main Street, Hutchinson, Kansas.  Graveside service will be held Friday, August 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Boulevard, Hutchinson, Kansas with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association and left in care of the funeral home.
