Joan Beth Goering, 85, passed away Saturday April 27, 2013 at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born in Newton, Kansas on January 24, 1928, the youngest daughter of William and Daisy Koppes Launhart.

A graduate of Bethel College in 1949, she was a teacher for 22 years retiring from McCandless Grade School. In addition to her education career, she was a devoted and dedicated homemaker. She was also an avid fisherman and gifted writer of short stories. A member of Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church, she was a resident of Reno County since 1958. After retiring in 1988, she was a "winter" Texan until 2010.

On June 1, 1949, she married Glen W. Goering at the Bethel College Chapel 6 in North Newton, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include a son, Lyle (Vicky) Goering of Wichita: 2 daughters, Brenda (Steve) Morrell and Nancy (Jim) McMurry, both of Pretty Prairie; 2 sisters, Wilma Meier of Newton and Kay Fischer of Dahlonega, Georgia; 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 infant children, William John and Mary Joan, and a sister, Marian Tangeman.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the First Mennonite Church of Pretty Prairie, Pretty Prairie, Kansas with Pastor Lester Zook presiding. Public visitation will be Tuesday, April 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County or Wesley Towers Good Samaritan Fund and left in care of the funeral home.
