John Edward Hindman, 84, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on October 11, 2020. John was born on April 5, 1936 in Marion, Kansas.
He graduated High School in 1954 and was a proud member of the ROTC. Later he went to college at K-State, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering. After, he joined the United States Army for 4 years as a Captain. John's love of airlines started when he was 9, and hitchhiked from Haven to Wichita with his brother Tom for flying lessons. While Tom had flying lessons, John wandered the airport riding with whoever would take him. John joined United Airlines and ended his career as a captain of a 747-400 airplane, flying from the Far East to Honolulu, Hawaii. They resided in Hawaii until his retirement. He also flew the Washington Redskins to Super Bowl 7. John enjoyed golf, the ocean, and a fine scotch. Being with family was a big part of his life.
John was preceded in death by: his parents, Thomas and Leona Hindman; brothers, Donald and Thomas Hindman; son, Eric Hindman; daughter, Kimberly Emack; and sister, Leona Hindman.
He is survived by: the love of his life of 37 years, his wife Patty Hindman; daughter, Kirsten (Tom) Buette; son, Chris (Traci) Albright; and granddaughter Erin (Maggie) Escobdo.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life for family and friends will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donation made to the Hospice and Home Care of Reno County.
