Obituary

John Samuel Neeley, 88, of South Hutchinson, passed away May 24, 2016, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, Sough Hutchinson. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 26, 1927, the son of Grant and Lillian Neeley. He was a retired warehouse rail controller for General Mills.

A veteran of the United States Army during World War II, he also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping, was a member of the Elmdale Pioneer Senior Center and participated in the Cow Creek Chapter of Old Time Fiddlers and Singers.

He married Frankie Jean Cooper on February 14, 1948 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include: a brother, Robert; a sister, Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Grant LeRoy; and a sister, Doris Durham.

A gathering of friends and family will be Thursday May 26, 2016 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Eldon Smith, presiding, at Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established and gifts may be made to Mennonite Friendship Communities, in care of the funeral home.
