Obituary

John W. Silcott Sr, 81, passed away August 29, 2023 at his home in Hutchinson, Kansas.
John was born November 15, 1941 in Anthony, KS, to Alvin and Evelyn (Blurton) Silcott. John was the fourth of 7 siblings, and always lived with a big family, later to include 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Joyce and Joann, brother, Jim, and daughters, Jackie and Jonnita.
John is survived by his sisters, Jean, Juanita, Jeanice, daughters, Jody and Jalona, son, Johnny, and his many grand and great-grandchildren.
John loved spending time outdoors; he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, gardening, and raising his bird dogs. In his younger years, he loved to socialize with family and friends, going to have a few drinks at the Clubs, playing his Keno and of course two-stepping to that good ole country music he so loved.
He was a dedicated and hardworking man as well, working at RL Polk for 35 plus years. John wasn't wasteful- he knew how to save a dime so to speak. Over the last years with his caretakers/sidekicks, his daughter Jalona and Granddaughter Kaley, a more recent hobby of his was going with them on weekly store visits searching for red discount stickers and good sales. Still a hunter, but for a good bargain.
A celebration of life will be held on Sept 29th at Carey Park Homebuilders, starting at 4:00pm, ceremony to follow around 5:00pm. Food and refreshments provided. In lieu of flowers, any memorials can be made to the family in care of Old Mission Heritage Funeral Home
