Joseph Edmond Taverner, 91, passed away December 15, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. The son of Joseph and Alta Taverner, III, he was born October 26, 1926 in Dale, Arkansas. A master carpenter, he worked for USD 308 and Cessna Hydraulics.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served as a scout leader for Boy Scout pack #319, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
On July 26, 1947 he married Evelyn Jean Richardson in Wichita, Kansas. She preceded him in death 2009.
Survivors include 3 sons, Robert (Sandy), Joseph (Denise), David (June); 2 sisters, Imogene, Wanda (Paul); 2 brothers, Don (Sherlene), Clyde (Pam); a daughter in law, Linda; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Larry Dean, 2 brothers, Jerry, Clarence.
A gathering for family and friends will be Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 10:30 am at Mennonite Friendship Communities Chapel, 605 W. Blanchard, South Hutchinson, Kansas. Interment will follow with military honors at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family has established memorials to the Kansas Diabetes Association or Mennonite Friendship Communities and left in care of the funeral home.
