Conard, Jr.
November 15, 1926 – January 30, 2018
Joseph R. Conard, Jr., 91, passed away January 30, 2018 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas with his wife, Alvena June (Zerger) by his side. He was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on November 15, 1926, the son of Joseph and Mabel (Brill) Conard.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and the Merchant Marines. After his service he returned to Hutchinson where he became an electrician tradesman, and later started Conard Electric in 1953 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He retired from being an electrician in 2005 and started Conard Electric Lamp Shop.
Joe was a social, active gentleman who was deeply involved in the Home Builders Association, was a 32 nd degree Mason, and a member of the American Legion for the majority of his life. He enjoyed playing pool, collecting coins, trains, and model cars. His family and friends will always remember him as a perfectionist.
He married Alvena June (A.J.) Zerger in November 1971. She survives. Other survivors include sons from a previous marriage to Rose Sawyer Armstrong, Randy and Steve (Robyn) Conard of Hutchinson, Kansas, step-son, Tarry (Nancy) Zerger of Cheney, Kansas; sister, Shirley (Richard) Gregory of Grand Prairie, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sister, Wanda, Betty, Dorothy, and, Frankie, and, one brother, Jim.
Per his request cremation has taken place and a gathering will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas.
