Judi McCartney, 81, passed away at home in Hutchinson, Kansas, on Sunday, February 23, 2025. She was born in Sutherland, Nebraska, on August 14, 1943, to Grace and Corwin Brumfield of Hershey, Nebraska.

Judi grew up on a ranch and farm pioneered by her parents in the Sandhills of west-central Nebraska. After graduating from North Platte High School in 1962, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she attended the Municipal University of Omaha (University of Nebraska at Omaha). She then went on to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone. Judi and her former spouse, Tim McCartney, had their daughter, Michele, in 1972. In 1983, Judi and her daughter moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, where she joined the family business at Millrose Ceramic Arts. Judi's last employment was at Wal-Mart as a Pharmacy Aide. She happily retired in 2020.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele McCartney, and granddog Stella, of Hutchinson, KS; sister Linda "Lin" and her husband, Dave Archer, of Harrah, OK; brother Paul Brumfield and his wife Karlene, of Mooresboro, NC; nieces Lisa Davies and Rozann Vibbert and her husband Doug; nephews William and Keegan Miller and brother-in-law, Robert Miller, all of Hutchinson, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Twila Brumfield, Leila Fear, and Sharon Miller, as well as brothers James, Harold, Jackie, and Ronny Brumfield.

Judi will always be remembered for working with her hands, whether crafting, gardening, or cooking. One of her favorite pastimes was reading and playing games on her tablet.

The family is grateful for the opportunity to have celebrated Judi's 80th birthday this past August 2023, surrounded by her loving extended family. She brought much joy, warmth, and humor into our lives, and her absence leaves a profound emptiness. Judi's generous spirit and caring heart will remain in our hearts forever.
