Obituary

Julio Cantu, Jr. 92, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away January 30, 2020 at Diversicare of Hutchinson,  Hutchinson, Kansas.  The son of Julio Cantu, Sr., and Manuela Garza Cantu, he was born in Oilton, Texas, May 11, 1927.  He was a retired machinist for Consolidated Manufacturing in Hutchinson, Kansas.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of both the VFW and American Legion in Hutchinson.  He was a longstanding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  His family knew him as a tireless worker who always provided for his family.  He also loved the sport of boxing.

On August 12, 1950 he married Georgia Caudillo in Hutchinson, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on June 1, 2008.

Survivors include: 1 son, Julio Cantu III; 3 daughters, Sylvia Lopez, Elva Baugh, and Lisa Jones; 1 sister, Elida Guzman; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Julida Helton, 1 grandson, Xavier Baugh, 1 great grandchild, Avery Reno, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

A rosary service will be held Monday, February 3, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 612 S. Maple, South Hutchinson, Kansas.  A life celebration mass will be held at the church, Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors.
