Larry Don Armstrong, 77, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born January 7, 1936 in Severy, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Eartha Armstrong.
A graduate of Buhler High School, he attended Glendale College and California Institute of Technology, and, in 1995 retired from Collins Corporation as bus plant department manager. An avid reader, he also enjoyed listening to jazz and classical music. He enjoyed the art of collecting with his metal detector. He was presently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Metal Detecting Association.
On November 23, 1962, he married Gloria Rose Southards in St. John, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Larry, of South Hutchinson, and a sister, Kay Huxman (Norman) of Arvada, Colorado, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Craig.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Fairlawn Burial Park. Public visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Old Mission-Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to the Kansas Diabetes Foundation, and may be left in care of the funeral home.
