Leona Mabel Peach, 75 years, of Garden City, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 6:20 pm in Hutchinson, Kansas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Crosspoint Church in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Leona was born in Fowler, Kansas to Elmer Clarence and Agnes Belle (Crawford) Feldman on July 30, 1941. She attended Fowler Public Schools. David Henry Peach and Leona were married on April 16, 1960 in Fowler. Leona began her work experience as a soda jerk at the drug store in Minneola, Kansas where she met David. Leona''s remaining employment history includes Stephen''s Family Practice (Minneola), Fabric Gallery (Meade), Peach''s Department Store (Minneola/St. John), Garden City United Methodist Church, High Plains Public Radio (Garden City), and Commerce Bank (Garden City).
David and Leona welcomed more than 200 foster children into their family homes from 1976-2015. Leona served as Nursery Coordinator for many years at Garden City United Methodist Church doing what she did best, loving on children. Leona loved to sew and fashioned many wedding dresses, suits, and clothing for countless recipients. On occasion, it was not uncommon to witness her fixing homemade pizza for the entire youth group.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Emma Ermel, Lee Ledbetter, Ruby Baldwin, and one brother, Harry Feldman.
Leona is survived by her husband, and three children, Donald and Tammy (Peach) Rose of McPherson, Kansas, G. Kevin and Lori (Peach) Williams of Reno, Illinois, and, Todd Peach of Hutchinson, Kansas. Her living siblings include Donna Hernandez, Laura Hawes, Reba Fleming, Lawrence Feldman, and, Mary Garrison. Leona''s nine grandchildren are Zachary, Jenessa, and Tanner Rose, Kieren, Hannah and Nathaniel Williams, Joshua, Garrett, and, Adrianna Peach and, two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Peach and Abram Seabold.
