Obituary

Louetta Shumway, 92, passed away August 30, 2017 at Pleasant View Home in Inman, Kansas. The daughter of Louis and Esty Briggeman, she was born on January 10, 1925 in Pratt County, Kansas. As a young girl she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On October 11, 1947 she married Dale Shumway in Natrona, Kansas. They would have observed their 70th wedding anniversary in October 2017.

She was a dedicated homemaker for her family. She loved to play the piano, and was an avid reader. She was a master quilter, loved cross stitch and crochet. She won several Kansas State Fair ribbons. She was a member of the Hutchinson Quilt Guild. She enjoyed tackling crossword and jigsaw puzzles, a hobby she passed on to her daughters. Being an accomplished seamstress, she sewed all of her daughter''s school clothes and prom dresses. Later she sewed wedding and bridesmaid''s dresses for her daughters and other friends.

Survivors include her husband, Dale, 3 daughters Susan (Paul) Petitt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Marcia (Wayne) Strawder of Inman, Kansas, and, Valerie (Wayne) Williams of Galva, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and, 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, an infant daughter, Shelley, and a son-in-law.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 9:30 AM at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas with burial to follow at Fairlawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to the donors own personal choice and left in care of the funeral home.
