Mary Ellen "Peggy" Dix, 90, earned her heavenly wings surrounded by her loving family on November 2, 2018 at The Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, Kansas. Born in Abilene, Kansas on March 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Joseph J. and Anna May Sager. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was employed by USD 308 as chef and director of food service and retired after 12 years in 1991. She also served as head of food service for Hadley Day Care. She was appointed local church representative for First United Methodist Women of Hutchinson doing dinners and receptions retiring in 1996. When she was younger she loved to roller skate, dance, enjoyed listening to her favorite classic country music, and was a proficient seamstress. Going camping and fishing was a favorite family pastime. Taking care of her family and her church "family" always kept her on the move and in the kitchen making her "famous" cinnamon and dinner rolls.
On November 9, 1947 she married Richard Dix in Herington, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Survivors include; 1 son, Randy Dix of Hutchinson, Kansas; 1 daughter, Linda (Paul) Litwiller of Niotaze, Kansas; 1 brother, Joseph "Bud" Sager of Wichita, Kansas; 2 sisters, Helen Fulton of Salina, Kansas and Donna Schmedeman of Wichita, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 17 great great children, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 5 sisters, 2 great grandsons, T. J. Forsyth and A1C Darren Phillips.
A gathering will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm with the family present from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Home, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. A celebration of life will take place on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 17
th
and Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. Inurnment will take place Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11:00 am at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice or Trinity United Methodist Church of Hutchinson and left in care of the funeral home.
