Mervin F. Cyr was born May 30, 1927, in Cloud County, Kansas to Melvin Leroy and Vida Ann Cyr, one of 3 children. He passed away February 16, 2025, in Clearwater, Kansas. Mervin attended Truesdale Kansas grade school and Hammerly Kansas grade school. He graduated from Longford Kansas High School in 1945. Out of high school he went to work for a harvest crew. Later he moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked at various restaurants then tool and die shops. He was employed at Cessna for the last 23 years of his working life. Mervin joined the Army in 1950 and served 2 years in Alaska during the Korean War in the Medical Corp and 5 years in the reserves. After returning from the service he met and married Opalea Lirley in 1954. They had 2 children, Connie and Roger. After retirement, Mervin worked with the Sojourners, a Church of Christ mission for 13 years. He also enjoyed gardening, camping, playing cards, going to garage sales, listening to gospel and country music and tinkering around the house. Mervin and Opalea traveled to Texas for the winter for 6 years before they decided to stay and brave the Kansas winters. They brought back many stories from these trips. Proceeding him in death are his parents; sisters, Freda Pohlenz of Wichita, Kansas, Fern Simmons of Wichita, Kansas; wife, Opalea Cyr of Hutchinson, Kansas and daughter, Connie Bierly of Hutchinson, Kansas. Surviving him is his son, Roger Cyr of Clearwater, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Know your Bible or Eastwood Church of Christ.
