Obituary

Nan June Roach, 89, passed away in her home December 10, 2023, after a brief illness, with her daughter Barbara Summer at her side.

She was born in Pecatonica, Illinois, March 21, 1934, to Charles and Emma Wiler. She had four siblings, Doris LeGault, Robert Wiler, Joan Galbraith and Tom Wiler.

Nan married a career military man in 1952, five children were born from this union. Kathy Hall, Steven Miller, Marsha Anderson, Martha Powell and Bill Miller. As a military family they lived all over the US and in Germany for 3 years. In 1968 she remarried Glen Roach, from this union three daughters were born; Barbara Summers, Gretchen Freeman, and Sarah Cooper. To the frustration of her family, Nan was a restless soul and moved her family numerous times around the US. She finally settled in Hutchinson, KS, in 2001, where she lived until her passing.

In 1977 she changed her faith and was Baptized as a Seventh Day Adventist and was a devout member. In 1978 she obtained her GED and enrolled in nursing school and proudly obtained her LPN license.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jessica Morevac, Nathan Popchoke, Heather McGoyne, AJ Popchoke, Felicia Shelton, Summer Cargile, Andrew Summers, Adrianna Cooper, and her great grandchildren, Graclynn, Jaxsyn, Wesley, David, and her newest one, Waylon, whom she got to meet shortly before her passing.

In 2000, her hearing started failing, prompting her to learn sign language thru the Friendly Deaf Baptist Church. Her hobbies included crafting, teaching Bible Studies, and telling the childrens story at Church. She was an avid reader and loved puzzles. She also learned to play the Bells and traveled to multiple churches and venues to perform with the deaf church.

Every September and October she would dye her hair purple to draw awareness to domestic violence after losing her daughter in 2012.

Nan was proceeded in death by her siblings, Doris, Joan, Tom, and her beloved daughter, Sarah Cooper.

Special thanks to granddaughter Felicia Shelton and her family for being a huge help to Grandma Nan when her mobility and health started declining.

In lieu of flowers, her daughters Barbara and Gretchen are requesting memorials be made to Bright House Women's Shelter, BrighthouseKs.org
