Robert H. Abernathy, 88, of Hutchinson, Kansas born at Grace Hospital, met his Lord and Savior Jesus on November 25, 2019 at Hospice House, surrounded by family.  He was born March 23, 1931 to Floyd and Wilma Abernathy.  He was a 1950 graduate of Hutchinson High School.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in France as a military police officer.  After his military commitment he went to tech school in KC to learn his life long career of auto body repair and painting.  He owned his own body shop for 30 years.  He loved his work as much as his customers loved their cars and wanted to make sure that every job was perfect.  When he wasn't at the body shop, he spent time with his family, fishing, camping, playing and coaching softball, singing in church choir, teaching Sunday school.  Later enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.

He married the true love of his life, Wanda Parrott in 1954 in Eureka Springs, AR.  She survives of the home.  Other survivors include: 4 sons, Daniel, Timothy, Brian, Robert; 2 daughters, Alice and Nancy; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren.  He always wanted a big family and got it.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Konard, and aunts and uncles.

There will be a celebration of life on November 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Bible Church, 1221 East 33rd St, Hutchinson, Kansas

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Mission program at Grace Bible Church and/or The Reno County Food Bank, 700 N. Walnut St., Hutchinson, Kansas.
