Ruth Ann Schmidt, 80, passed away February 25, 2018 at Sunshine Meadows Nursing Home in Buhler, Kansas. The daughter of John O. and Clara Smith, she was born in Pretty Prairie, Kansas on April 23, 1937. A devoted wife and mother, she was a retired accountant.

She was a master quilter and seamstress – to her family she was quite the tailor! She was a member of the "Loosey-Goosey Club" for years, took time to teach her sewing craft to others, loved to play the piano and organ, and was a phenomenal cook!

On June 5, 1955 she married the love of her life Norman J. Schmidt in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include 3 sons, Bryan C. (Valerie) Schmidt, Gregg N. Schmidt, and Wayne C. (Carla) Schmidt; 1 sister in law, Sara Johnson-Smith; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Brent, 1 daughter, Staci, 1 brother and 1 sister.

A gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 am and a celebration of life will follow at 11:00 am at Old Mission – Heritage Funeral Chapel, 528 N. Main, Hutchinson, Kansas. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may by made to the Reno County Soup Kitchen and left in care of the funeral home.
